My cat has clear eye discharge and is squinting. Is this an emergency?

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | neutered | 10 years and 6 months old | 12 lbs

Starting today Oreo has had excessive discharge in his eyes especially the left one. He doesn’t have any other symptoms but it’s causing him to squint that eye a lot. When I wiped it I can see that the discharge is clear but I still wanted to check if it’s a reason for concern? We have a dog but he doesn’t come into contact with other cats and is strictly inside. Thank you!

It could be Oreo has hurt his eye or has an eye infection. Any eye problem is an emergency because leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. I'd take him into a vet today to have this diagnosed and treated. Best of luck.

I see what you mean. He could be squinting because the light is painful to his eye, and it may be he has injured his eyes or has an eye infection. It sounds like Squeak could have an eye infection. The eye is such a delicate and important structure that any problem with it should be considered an emergency. That's because leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. You need to take her into a vet immediately to have her eye examined and diagnosed so it can be treated as needed. I hope this helps!

My cat Toby, who is about three years old has watery eyes and clear discharge coming from them. He is a short hair and stray mix. He is an outdoor cat and is fixed.

My cat who is about 2 years old now has a eye problem, in which he can't open it all the way and he is getting lots of eye goop. What should I do?
Oreo seems to have an infection. We cannot rule out a corneal ulcer just by looking at the picture. Cats often have upper respiratory tract infection, and develop conjunctivitis and I discharge because of it. Take Oreo to your veterinarian for a detailed exam that possibly will include staining the cornea to rule out ulcers. I forsee you will have to give eye meds at least twice a day or more depending on the physical findings. You can use a clean washcloth wet with lukewarm water and gently wash away the eye discharge for now. Good luck and thank you for using Boop by Petco.

No, this won't go away with time, and Loki has to see a vet immediately. He could have an eye infection or could have suffered some trauma to his eye. Hi, i noticed one of my cats eyes is turning a foggy brown color when her eyes are usually light blue, we tried giving her pet eyedrops from the local pet store but they havent really done much. I was wondering if anybody knew what this was?

My kitten who is about 2 in a half months old eye is rolled back in one of his eyes. There was some white discharge coming out of the eye. We carefully wiped it away. We now own three cats, and have never had this happen. Our local vet is closed now.
Poor Saber Tooth! He could have a severe eye infection or he could have injured his eye. The eye is such a delicate and important structure that any problem with it should be considered an emergency. That's because leaving it untreated can lead to permanent vision loss. He does need to see a vet now. Please take him into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. My dog had been squinting a lot/having a hard time opening her eyes, especially the left. The fur below is damp too but no other visible discharge. I don't know when it started but Mom said it had been going on for some days already.
