My dog's crusty, irritated skin growth won't heal. When to see vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 13 years and 3 months old | 24 lbs

I believe this is viral papilloma - it doesn’t appear to bother him much - occasionally scratches. Appeared to be a mole then after being clipped was irritated and does not heal - remains crusty. Should I see a vet or continue to monitor?

That appears to be a sebaceous adenoma - a benign skin growth. These are not concerning but can sometimes bleed or become infected. In that instance, it should be removed if it is causing constant issues.
