My dog gets diarrhea without rice. Is long-term rice feeding okay?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Hi, my dog was on the chicken and rice method well on his way to recovery from diarrhea and some vomiting and he was also doing well when I took the chicken away and slowly implementing his dog food back with less and less rice each time. But the moment I took the rice away completely, leaving only his dog food, his diarrhea came back. This happened twice now. Is it ok if I continue feeding rice to him, along with his dog food, long term?

Yes, it is ok to feed rice or pasta long term. Maybe the regular food that Trouble currently is on is not good for him anymore. Some dogs, that have been eating one brand of food all life, suddenly develop intolerance or allergy. It may be worth to try Trouble on a different brand of food for senior dogs.
