Rooster injured my duck's neck. How do I clean her neck wound?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Farm Animal | Unknown | Female | unspayed | 1 month and 26 days old | 2 lbs

So my rooster tried to mate with my female duck and her neck has an injury and her head had some blood on it. Should I make a neck brace for her? And how do I clean her wound?

Hello. I do not think you need to make a neck brace. It will probably just stress her out further. Just clean the wound with some hydrogen peroxide & apply a triple antibiotic to the wounds. You may need to do this twice a day for a week or so. Watch out for flies around the wounds so you do not wind up with maggots in the wound. You can spray a little fly spray made for pets to help. Most wounds on birds heal pretty quickly. Thanks for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
