My spayed dog is licking and humping after moving. Is it stress?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Shiba Inu | Female | spayed | 4 years and 4 months old | 32 lbs

We recently moved into a new apartment and our dog has started excessively licking her genitalia and humping. She is spayed and has done this before, but never to this magnitude. Everything else is normal.. she’s eating and drinking normally. Is this something to be concerned about, or is it possible it’s a reaction to stress?

You are correct, it is most likely stress related. I suggest you get her an Adaptil collar to wear and use the Adaptil diffuser in your house for a few months. https://worldtails.securevetsource.com/site/view/198944_HomeDelivery.pml?s=adaptil&hierarchy=&sort=score%20desc I also think that, in general, most calming chews/treats don't work well but this brand really seems to help. So, if you also want to try these chews as well, I would recommend them. https://worldtails.securevetsource.com/itemView/view/198944_HomeDelivery.pml?productId=117298 Hopefully these things will help reduce her stress/anxiety. Best wishes!
