My unneutered cat has a swollen, sore tail from fighting. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 2 months old

My cat (male, 1 year old, not fixed) came home with a wound on his tail near the base that looks like a sore. A couple days later he came home again with 2 more and he's lost the fur all around his wounds. Hes eating and drinking like normal, he is behaving as usual, but i dont know how he has been using the restroom because he goes outside. He has been in fights with other animals before. The base of his tail is swollen, which i noticed first, and then a couple days later the wound appeared.

If Elton isn't fixed, I suspect he's fighting with other male cats over females, and bites from other cats frequently become abscessed. Keep him indoors tonight and in the morning, and take him into the vet in the morning to get this treated. Best of luck.
