Why is my dog's black, thick skin making him lick and snap?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Maltipoo | Male | unneutered | 1 year and 6 months old | 11 lbs

My maltipoo's skin is turning black and thickening, he is licking areas that have the issue greatly, like his thigh. When i try to touch the area, he gets aggressive and snaps at me.

These skin changes are likely associated with inflammatory skin disease like an allergy or infection. I would get a cone to make sure Leo cannot lick his skin. He should see a veterinarian who may need to trial antibiotics or antiinflammatories to help his skin.
