My cat won't eat and is throwing up. What to do before her vet visit?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 10 months and 16 days old | 8.5 lbs

Hello! My cat has been refusing most food since Sunday, and she just threw up some tiny pieces of bread that I managed to get her to eat. She has never thrown up before and usually is a good eater. Her energy and alertness levels seem normal. I just set up a vet appointment for her for tomorrow afternoon, but I am worried about her. Is there anything I can do for her in the meantime? Thank you.

Hello, thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach! So sorry that Vesper is not feeling well :( I am really glad you set up a vet appointment for her for tomorrow. I think it is best to withhold food from now until tomorrow morning to give her stomach a rest. You can feed her tomorrow morning and that way you will have a few hours before the appointment to see if she is going to continue to vomit. I don't recommend that you give her any over the counter medications at this stage. Hope this helps. Best wishes!
