Hello, My dogs armpits are black and almost feel like elephant skin. She is also chewing her butt and top of her tail almost raw. Is this a sign of allergies? I’ve been giving her some Benadryl and have a purchased a cone at Petco to try to prevent her from itching. I also have a medicated shampoo and I gave her a bath with that. Do you have any tips on how I can get her to feel better and her skin back to normal?please and thank you.

The skin on her back looks infected. The underlying problem is most likely an allergy and the infection is a result of scratching and biting. You really need to take Arca to your local vets to get a course of antibiotics and possibly a course of steroids (which are stronger anti-allergic medications than Benadryl). After 2 weeks or so of treatment there should be improvement, however, the thick, black skin may take months to get back to normal.
