My cat had one kitten. I feel more. Is she done or is labor stalled?

My cat had one kitten last night she is doing fine and nursing and acting normal it still feels like there are at least one more baby moving around should I be worried that she doesn’t seem to be in labor anymore or will it start up again. She had the one baby last night around 10:30.

While cats can have one kitten, it is more common that they have multiple ones. If you think there are more kittens yet to be born, she may need help giving birth. Please take her and her kitten into a vet immediately.

Since she has been having contractions for a few hours now and has not produced a kitten, it is now time for an intervention by a veterinarian. Please take her to a vet or petER now. The vet will be able to determine whether there is another kitten or more than one, and whether there is a kitten blocking the birth canal. Your cat may need a cesarian section in case the kitten (if there is one) is too big to be born naturally. Please take her to a vet now.

If there is no progression at this point then she needs to see a vet. They can X-ray and see how many are left Your vet can give medication to stimulate contractions if needed or do a c section if that is indicated at this point

It's been 3 hours since she gave birth to one kitten. There are more in her tummy, but she is not doing anything. Is that normal? Does she need more time?
If she is not straining to push at this time, then yes give her more time to birth the rest of the kittens at her own pace. This process, known as[ queening](https://www.petcoach.co/article/queening-giving-birth-in-cats/), can take up to 48 hrs to complete. Please try not to worry or [stress](https://www.petcoach.co/article/5-surprising-ways-stress-can-impact-your-pet) her during her labor process as this can stall and prolong her labor. If no kitten is delivered after 30 minutes of active straining/pushing, then you should have her examined by your veterinarian or at the nearest veterinary ER.

Hello, yes kittens can have nursing behaviors that include seeking more attention from you and nursing her kitten. However, keep a close eye on her and make sure she is not continuing to have more contractions without being able to produce another kitten. Most frequently, cats will have multiple kittens at birth, not a single one. If you suspect she is not able to deliver the rest of her kittens, then you should consider having her evaluated by her primary care veterinarian for a possible dystocia. A cat should have all kittens within 6-8 hours, and while possible, it is rare for there to only be one kitten in a litter. Hello. I am so sorry you lost the kitten. For the sake of your mother cat, you need to have her evaluated by a veterinarian to make sure there are no more kittens inside her. While cats can have interrupted labor, it's concerning that Lucy is contracting and not having a kitten. In this case, yes I would be very concerned and I would take her and her kitten into a vet immediately for treatment.

A vet visit is always recommended in these cases so that is my suggestion - get her to a vet for an exam. If you don't want to take her to the vet just yet then monitor her closely for any signs of illness (not eating/drinking, lethargy, vomiting, hiding, etc). If you notice anything abnormal, then get her to the vet ASAP. She may have only had one kitten - there may not be any others. Please consider having her spayed as soon as you can. If they have stillborns they will usually continue to do so.

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Cats can delay labor for a maximum of 24 hours. If it has been longer than 24 hours then that constitutes an emergency. If you are concerned about a retained kitten that hasn't been born great than 24 hours after the birth of the last kitten I highly recommend a Vet appointment. They can take an X-ray to confirm she is finished. I wish Chloe the best!
