Pet's info: Dog | Chihuahua | Female | spayed | 2 years and 1 month old | 8 lbs
My Chihuahua just peed- in her pee are ton of clear, squishy, gel-like “granules”. What are they/what does this mean? She is acting normal- eating drinking peeing pooping alert, but I’ve never seen anything like this before.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Ella. I recommend that she has a fresh urine sample tested by her veterinarian. You are correct that her urine does not appear normal. She could have crystals present. This occurs when the urine pH is too high or too low. Crystals can predispose a dog to bladder stones. If this is not the case, you could be seeing mucus in the urine. This tends to go along with a urinary tract infection or inflammation. Is she having any urinary signs at home? This can include straining to urinate, having accidents in the house, urinating more frequently or drinking more water. These symptoms can indicate disease and guide her veterinarian. I hope this information helps!

I am sorry Lily is having an issue like this. I would recommend going back to the veterinarian. My concern is she may have a urinary tract infection, she could have bladder stone or she could have something more going on like a mass in the bladder. All 3 of these differentials can make dogs urinate more frequently and more often. I would bring a urine sample if you can collect one before you go to the veterinarian. This way the veterinarian can evaluate it. She may also need X-rays if they are suspicious of a bladder stone. If she cannot urinate at any point this is a life threatening emergency and she would need veterinary care immediately. Thank you for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
