Seresto vs oral flea & tick: Which is best for my working dog?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Hi vets. I am planning on getting a working border collie for my sheep. I am figuring out the budget for it, and I am looking at different flea and tick medications. The oral medications get pretty pricey. My question is, which would be better in protecting my dog, oral medication or the Seresto collar that last for the 8 months or whatever it is? Or what is the best, safe oral medication? I use Nexgard on my poodle and it works well

Seresto will be most cost-effective. It is a good quality product and lasts for 8 months. It would be a good choice for a working dog. Nexgard is as good (safe and effective) as Seresto but it will cost you more per year compared with Seresto.
