My dog is grieving a lost pet. How can I help them cope and remember?

Cookies brother passed away and I want to know how to make it less painful for him and not get depressed? Also what is the best way to remember a pet? Thank you take care and God less you and your family (sorry if it offended you)

This doesn't offend me at all! I'm so sorry for your loss, please accept my condolences. Give Cookie lots of attention and love. Play with him more, give him his favorite treats. This will help him during this time. As for remembering your dog, I recommend getting him cremated. Set up his box of ashes with a framed picture of him to make him a memorial. I hope this helps!

I am so sorry to hear this! It is always sad to lose a 4 legged family members but it is also heart breaking to watch their house mates suffer the same grievance. I would make sure to give your dog plenty of extra TLC and spend extra time with him when you can. I would also consider put a calming collar on him like adaptil to help calm him while you are away. There are also calming chews you could try like composure or the prescription version composure pro. At the end of the day, it is going to take time for him to grieve just like us. Unfortunately, some do not completely heal until they have a new companion to be with. I hope this helps and please know you are in my thoughts.

First off, I'm very sorry you lost your ex! It must be hard on you, so please accept my condolences for your loss. In terms of Rico, the best thing you can do for him is give him lots of love. I agree that he may know your ex is gone, and he probably is reacting to your emotions as well in terms of the loss. Spend a lot of time loving on him, playing with him, and giving him a ton of attention. This will help him through this tough time. While dogs do mourn, it typically doesn't last long, but I always recommend extra special attention when someone important from their life is gone. Hello, and thanks for your question. I'm sorry to hear that your older dog is likely nearing the end of her life, and it's great that you're thinking about Derek and how he may cope. In short, all dogs respond a little differently. Some go through a period of obvious mourning with a decreased appetite and lethargy, while others don't. Dogs are pretty resilient and flexible, and likely Derek will do ok, even if he needs some time to mourn and adjust to the changes without his buddy there. Just give him some extra love and attention, and provide some extra stimulation through bonding activities, such as play and walks. Usually within a week or two they start to adjust to the "new normal." I'm so sorry for your loss! Pets grieve, just as we do. Try to keep your dog's daily routine as normal as possible, while giving your dog some extra attention and exercise as a distraction. Ultimately, grief takes time to process for our four legged friends, just as it does for us.

Losing a beloved pet is extremely difficult, especially when they pass suddenly, and I hope that as time passes, your grief will ease. We recently adopted my late aunt's older dog. How can we support him in his grief?
Hmmm, my answer got cut off. Stick with the same food and treats if possible. If he has a dog bed he's used to, keep that available for him. Finally, if you have access to your aunt's clothes, it may help to give him an article of her clothes that she frequently wore that might still have her scent. The scent will eventually wear off, but in the meantime he'll be adjusting to his new environment and routine. The fact that you're asking tells me you want to do right by him, and I think you (and he) will do fine! Good luck, hope this helps!

First off, I'm so sorry that Meekah passed away. Please accept my condolences for your loss. It's hard on a pet when their companion passes away, and it can take some time for the grieving to pass. It will pass quicker for Corndog than for you, but he should not give very long. During this time, give him lots of extra love and attention to support him, and when you feel ready, maybe adding another cat to your family will help you all. Only do this if and when you are ready. Tomasz, Thank you so much for your help and quick response. The second email was to give you more information. I miss Rain dearly she was a very fun and happy dog. I'm greiving and feel all of those feelings that go with it. She died a few weeks ago.
I personally know how it is to lose a dog and I really feel sorry for your loss. At work I come across some owners that blame themselves for their pets' health problems. This really should not be the case for Rain as she did not die because of herbicides or fertilizer. Grieving is a mental process that is very hard but this is the only way to move on. It is good that you will remember her as a fun and happy dog as she must have been like that for her entire life.
