Why can't my 9-year-old Yorkie stand, has back hump, won't eat?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Yorkshire Terrier | Male | neutered

I have a Yorkshire terrier dog who is 9 years old. He cannot stand on his back two legs. If I place him up he has a hump on his back and will eventually fall down or drag his legs behind him. He won’t eat or drink or go toilet. i have been to a vet who gave steroids for nerve pain. I just want a second opinion on what it may be.

It is most likely a slipped disk in his back or it could be a tumor of the spinal cord or even a blood clot (FCE). If you want to know what it is exactly he will need more testing like a CT scan or MRI. Otherwise continue with the steroids as the vet prescribed. If he cannot urinate on his own that is a problem so watch him closely and if he can't urinate you need to call your vet.
