My cat's head cyst is bleeding. Is it infected? How do I clean it?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Hi my cat has had what we believe to be a sebaceous cyst on it’s head for a while however tonight we have noticed that it appears to be bloody and has scabbed over as if it’s been leaking. At the moment my local vets is closed unless it’s essential emergencies. I’m just worried that it could become infected or has already become infected. I’m just wondering if you could please give me some symptoms of infection and ways of trying to keep it clean. Thanks

Signs of infection include redness, swelling, warmth to the touch, and pus. Gently clean the area with warm water and antiseptic soap. If you see any signs of infection, have her seen by a vet. I hope this helps!
