My kitten took Tylenol. Is it toxic? Should I go to the emergency vet?

My vet suggested baby aspirin 1/2 of 81mg and during this pandemic baby aspirin is none existent. I gave 40mg of children’s Tylenol. My kitten seems to be allergic to the shots given the day before. Is this something I should take my kitten to an emergency vet for?

Tylenol is highly toxic to cats, and should never be given to them! As little as one tablet of Regular Strength Tylenol contains enough acetaminophen to kill some cats. You need to take her into a vet immediately, this is a medical emergency.

Cats have a decreased ability to metabolize acetaminophen in their liver, making them much more susceptible to poisoning than most other species. Even though your cat may not show any symptoms yet, its liver may have been damaged. THIS IS AN EMERGENCY You need to take your cat to a veterinarian now.

I think my cat ate a Tylenol. He pooped on himself which he’s never done and he’s screaming. Is he going to die.
Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Poor Billy! It depends on the dose of Tylenol ingested. You can call the Pet Poison hotline to see if you know the number of pills and milligrams of the pills. Otherwise he should be taken to an open emergency vet right now. Cats can be saved from Tylenol toxicity if immediate action is taken. Sadly cats can not metabolize Tylenol and for Billy's weight of 10 lbs only 45 mg is toxic. Signs of toxicity are trouble breathing, vomiting, grey-brown gums, swollen face, neck or legs. If you aren't sure he ate Tylenol he could be having diarrhea for many reasons and if he feels urgency and is uncomfortable he could be vocalizing. My 7 month old kitten has sneezing and flu, this morning my father gave him panadol without the knowledge of its toxicity, it's been 5 hours, he hasn't showed any symptoms of toxicity. What should I do?
Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Panadol contains Acetaminophen which is extremely toxic to cats. Whether Kattu with be ok depends on his weight and the dose that was given to him. At toxic doses it causes an issue with red blood cell oxygen carrying abilities and is seen with in 1-4 hours of ingestion and can last 12-48 hours or until death. Clinical signs include cyanosis (blue gums), difficulty breathing, fast breathing, depression, low body temperature weakness, facial edema, and/or edema of the feet. It can also cause liver toxicity, which can develop 24-48 hours after exposure. Clinical signs are jaundice, vomiting, abdominal pain and not eating. It can also rarely cause kidney damage 1-2 days later. Dry eye can devlop 48-72 hours later. Kattu should be hospitalized and be monitored at a 24 hour facility. I wish Kattu the best

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! It sounds like Tom is quite sick and is important to get him to a veterinarian as soon as possible for further assessment and treatment. Using Panadol is not recommended in cats and can result in a toxicity so discontinue this. Your veterinarian would be able to look at him more closely and prescribe therapy accordingly. Best of luck!

No, Ibuprofen and Tylenol can be toxic to cats. If she seems to be in a lot of pain and your vet can’t see her then you will need to take her to an emergency clinic for treatment. Sorry that she is in pain.

I gave my kitty ibuprofen...she is FIV positive and the meds the vet gave arent working and i couldnt take it anymore. She had one last night and one at noon today and seems ok...even better. Is she going to die? Approx 700mg of ibuprofen in 48 hour
Hi there and thank you for your question. Giving ibuprofen to a cat can be very very toxic. Cats are extremely sensitive to NSAIDS in general (even veterinary Rx ones), so the Ibuprofen given is certainly a serious concern here. 700mg is a lot for one 8 lbs cat to ingest. Signs of ibuprofen toxicity would include vomiting, blood vomit, diarrhea, weakness, pale gums, lethargy, loss of appetite , seizures, and back tarry stool. Ibuprofen can cause GI ulcers, liver damage, and kidney failure. I would absolutely seek emergency veterinary care and treatment for her today, keeping in mind signs of toxicity may be delayed. They will need to give her IV fluids, check her kidney and liver function, give GI protectants, and monitor her vital signs. In the future, any OTC human pain medication is toxic to give to cats and is not okay to give to Willow. I hope Willow gets well soon. Thank you for using Boop by Petco!

My dog bit open a paracetamol capsule (500mg, I believe). He's only 3.5kgs. Would this be harmful? It was only a few minutes ago.
Did he just bite it open, or did he also ingest the content? If he also ingested the content, you should take Koda to your vet right away where they can make her regurgitate her stomach contents and with it hopefully the ingested Paracetamol. And you need to go to a vet now.

Are there any pain meds I can buy at the store that I can give to my cat? His prescription ran out (morphine) and his vet won't be back until saturday. He's in so much pain that he can hardly move. Please help!!
Unfortunately no. Many OTC pain medications are toxic to cats, and are fatal if given. If Oliver is in a lot of pain, he needs to see a vet now. Please take him into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. My 3 kittens may have ingested up to 90 mgs of Lorazapam/Ativan. Earlier today they were acting "goofy" but now they are lethargic. What should I do ?
0.125mg/lb (0.25mg/kg approx) is the recommended upper dose so some severe and possibly life threatening sedation could potentially occur. I would recommend getting them to an emergency vet for supportive treatment and monitoring until they can clear the drug out of their system; iv fluids, maintaining body temperature and possibly the administration of an antidote may be required

I got home and my petsitrer said my dog ate 12 500mg tylenol tablets about 12 hours ago. He is a 15 y/o 22 pound Jack Russell cross
Oh dear! I'm afraid that B needs to be seen by an emergency vet immediately. The toxic dose of Tylenol in dogs is considered to be 50-100 mg/kg. If B ate 12 500 mg tablets, this is a total of 6000 mg - with his body weight, this works out to 600 mg/kg, which is far above the amount that can cause serious toxicity issues or even death. I would recommend taking him to your nearest emergency clinic right away for treatment.
