What's causing my cat's red, swollen, weepy mouth with black specks?

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | neutered | 5 years and 3 months old | 12 lbs

On Monday or Tuesday, I noticed that one of corners of my cat's mouth appeared red and swollen. And, on the inner side there was a small circular white patch. Today I noticed it looks worse. It looks a bit weepy, and he doesn't close that side of his mouth. Sometimes it seems like he has a bit of trouble eating. He also has black specks on the side of his mouth that were never there before. Any insight is greatly appreciated.

It may be Penney has an infection causing these red spots and it sounds like it may be causing him pain to eat. I'd have him seen by a vet first thing in the morning to get this diagnosed and treated. I hope this helps!

Poor baby. Looks like a pouty lip..lol. it is swollen, has a secondary inf3ction, and an ulcer. These can be caused by a primary infection, contact irritation, insect bite, or an immune mediated condition. Make sure his bowls aren't plastic, and call your veterinarian in the am to schedule an appointment to get it checked out.

Max has developed inflammation on his lower lip. He is unable to eat and looks in pain and is very lethargic
Max needs to be examined by the veterinarian today. Pets have to be in a lot of pain not to eat. Max will also get medication which will help him to feel better and start eating and drinking. Remember that dehydration can set in quickly and will make Max feel even worse so it's important that he feels better quickly so that he will resume his normal drinking and eating. Hello, my 9 month old cat has developed some sort of infection in his mouth. Please advise what possibly could this be, infection or bad tooth!? Side of his mouth is red, a bit swollen and definitely bad breath is present.
I would say from your pictures that Jax's gum is quite swollen and I imagine it's very painful to him. It could be that his tooth has broken off and is rotten causing the swelling and bad breath. It could also be he has a tooth root abscess. This is definitely something that needs to be treated sooner rather than later, so please call your vet to get him an appointment asap to have this treated. I would soak his dry food in warm water or gently warmed chicken broth to make his food softer to eat, or you can give him canned food for now. Best of luck, I hope this helps.

Hi my cat's nose is swollen , and it is refusing to eat. It has black marks over feet and the side of his mouth. I'm really really concerned
I cannot really see much in these photos - they are too dark and grainy. If his mouth is swollen and he won't eat then I suspect he has a problem with one of his teeth (infection) or his jaw has been injured. You need to get him to a vet for an examination. Unfortunately, that is the best we can tell you via the internet.

Our cat has a raised pink swollen area on the corner of her mouth, what could this be and how do we treat it?
There are a number of things that this could be. Cats can get small pink raw spots or swollen areas on their lips called rodent ulcers, which are caused by allergies. Other possibilities would include an insect bite or local inflammatory reaction of some kind, a localized bacterial infection, or even some type of tumor. Unfortunately, there isn't anything over the counter that can be used to treat any of these problems - you can monitor the swollen area for the next few days to see if it resolves on its own, but if it doesn't or if it seems to be getting larger, then Alaska will need to be examined by a vet. He/she can do some simple skin tests if needed to help determine the problem and get her started on appropriate medication to treat it.

It's hard to say what is going on without seeing it in person. It could be a sting, or it could be an infected tooth, mass in the mouth, an inflammatory condition in the gums, a tumor, etc. I would recommend that you have Shades examined by a vet to determine what is going on and what treatment it may need.

My cat has some redness around his lips, but he’s acting normal. He’s eating, drinking, and playing as usual. Theres no swelling that I can see. Does anyone know what might be going on here? I’d really appreciate any help.
I’m glad to hear the Binx is doing well aside from this redness. I agree - I don’t see any evidence of swelling or discrete lesions. That said, this type of redness is more likely either irritation from food and water bowls, or some underlying allergies, particularly given his young age. Plastic and ceramic bowls are fairly porous and can harbor bacteria. If you aren’t already doing so, try using stainless steel or glass bowls, taking care to wash them daily. If the redness persists, your next option is to take Binx to his vet for an exam. Your vet may need to prescribe some medication to help get this redness under control. Given the location, I wouldn’t recommend trying any topical medication, as I wouldn’t want Binx to ingest any of it. I hope that everything goes well!

I am sorry to hear about your kitten! I would recommend getting him to a vet as soon as possible if he is having trouble eating. He could have an infection of the lip here, or it looks like what we call a "rodent ulcer" which is a granulomatous reaction of the immune system https://veterinarypartner.vin.com/default.aspx?pid=19239&id=4951528 . Either way, he needs veterinary care for this issue.

My cat has something on his lip, he doesn’t want to eat and looks sad, also his eyes are watery and his nose runny, and he is sleeping more than usual. I don’t know if it is an infection in his mouth or a flu, or something else.
Porfirio looks pretty sick. The lesions on his mouth may be infected ulcers from a virus, allergic reaction or dental disease. The eyes being swollen could also be related to a virus or significant inflammation in the area. I recommend to have him seen by his veterinarian today if possible as I be he is in discomfort- think about when your sinuses have a lot of pressure. He will likely get treatment for a bacterial infection and possible viral as well. I hope this points you in the right direction. Please post again with any further questions.

I am sorry to hear that! I do think going to the vet would be a good idea. Cats can get many types of lumps at their mouths. From your description one thing I would want to rule out is eosinophilic plaques. These can be caused by allergies so getting on a low allergen food (I would recommend prescription due to cross-contamination at the manufacturing level) and medications can be vital! Of course it is hard to tell without looking at her so your vet may want to rule tests or take a biopsy first! I hope this helps!
