What's the best daily feeding schedule for my cat: wet or dry?

How many times a cat should be fed per day? And what is the best time to give dry food or wet food through the day?

Great question! I personally leave dry food out all day for my cats so they can graze when hungry, but since one of them is pretty fat, it's likely not the best idea lol. The other two cats are skinny though. You can leave a set amount of dry food out during the day for Katniss to eat when hungry, and give her some wet food in the morning and night. I hope this helps!

The best plan would be to weigh your cat and use the info on the packets to work out her daily intake if she was on just try or just wet food. If you give her half of the wet amount and half of the dry it will work out as a daily ration. I would leave the dry out for her then feed the wet nice and fresh once or twice a day.

In all honesty, either way is fine! Given that you do feed Kovu wet food, feeding him twice a day may work best for him. That way, he has fresh canned food every night, and he has the dry food to nibble on during the day. Because you are already feeding him twice a day, I would stay with that! I hope this helps!

Hello. Just for convenience, most folks just leave a bowl of food out for cats to graze on throughout the day. But if Maximus is overweight, or trending toward being overweight, you will need to control the amount of food he consumes in a day or place him on a metabolic weight control diet. As I see it, cats seem to get hungry, 10 minutes after I turn off the light for bed, so having some available will help me sleep all night. If Maximus is more considerate, & you do not mind feeding when he asks for food, you can certainly do this. Ideally, I would calculate the proper amount he needs daily based on what your bag of food recommends & divide this into 3 feedings, morning, noon or early evening, & the remaining amount for snacking overnight. Remember, if you are feeding for an ideal weight, or for Maximus to lose a little weight you will feed for that weight. In other words, follow the food amount recommendations for a 10 or 12-pound cat if he needs to lose a couple of pounds.

I just adopted a Russian Blue 4 month old cat. the person told me to feed her once a day wet food at the same time everyday and leave out dry food for her to pick on. That doesn't sound too right.
Hello. That actually does not sound too unusual. You can certainly offer her the canned twice daily ( my house kitty gets a spoonful morning & evening ), & then he is free to pick at the dry all day. MOST cats are good at self regulating & will not eat too much to become obese, but this is something to watch for as Aspen grows older. It is very much an individual thing, but for now Aspen can be free to eat when he wants to. Thanks for using Boop by Petco.

Any kitten formulation should be fine to give. Most brands have both wet and dry versions of the same foods so you can offer both without causing GI upset. If you are switching foods, gradually doing so over a period of 7-9 days can help minimize any GI upset. Most kittens should be fed 3-4 times a day and this can decrease to 2-3 once they are a bit older. The wet/dry combo can be spread out however works best for your schedule, however any wet food that is not eaten should be picked up after 15 minutes to avoid spoiling.

if your cat is of normal weight and gets enough exercise, you can leave it at that. If you prefer to feed individual meals (2-3 times a day) you should slowly transition to wet/canned food and slowly reduce the dry food. Wet food overall is better for your cat, especially when a cat gets older. It contains less carbohydrates (cats are obligatory carnivores, so mainly need protein, not carbs), lessens the chance of your cat becoming a diabetic, and ensures that your cat gets more moisture with its food rather than having to drink more. If you feed canned food, stick with pate-type food, as cats tend to only lick off the gravy in chunky type foods. They prefer the ground mouse approach :D

You can free feed. By that, I mean leave her kitten food out all day, and she can nibble when she likes. Her kitten food will have the feeding instructions on the bag, so give her the daily recommended allotment. I hope this helps!

I have an about 9 month old male kitten, and I have few questions about his food situation. I have been letting him have dry food when ever he wants, and then giving him 2 cans of wet food, once in the morning and once in the evening. is this ok?
This is fine for right now. If he starts to gain too much weight I would cut back to one can a day. Sometimes cats do very well with having free access to dry food while others need actual meals so people can regulate how much they are eating. Should I feed my cat dry or wet food?
I typically recommend wet food with some dry food mixed in or given as treats, depending on Arabella's weight. Wet food helps maintain adequate hydration which can be beneficial for their kidneys and urinary system. It also has built in portion control and can help with maintaining a normal weight. I would talk to your vet about the proper amounts to feed Arabella but most cats are going to need about 200 calories per day.

Hi there! Hunny Cat is very cute! I believe it's better to feed cats canned food. It has more moisture and adds a little bit more hydration to their daily intake. Later in life, cats can commonly develop kidney disease and/or urinary bladder disease. In both cases, cats will benefit greatly from the increased water content of a canned diet. The canned food is a lot better too to help keep an indoor cat's weight in check. All indoor cats have a tendency to become overweight, as they don't exercise as much as feral cats. Since cats usually will ingest the canned food right away, it is easier to portion the food out and also provide cats with meal times. This is very helpful to increase their metabolism, and to help discourage them from gaining weight. Far too often, we see cats being fed a pile of dried food in a bowl where they eat buffet-style on and off all day long. This can easily lead to weight gain and obesity, as well as all sorts of health problems. Nutro is good food, and so
