Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Female | spayed | 7 years old | 70 lbs
My dog jumped in play last night and gave a yelp. Found several mats in her coat. She is double coated. Removed the mats. She yelped when she walked down the stairs. She is more quiet than usual. She just turned seven and is overweight. Vets in my area are overbooked because of the Coronavirus.

It's hard to say what could be causing it. It probably isn't related to the mats in the fur. It could be a muscle sprain, small fracture, or something else. Try keeping Emily as still as possible to allow rest and healing. You may also want to find some pet clippers (not scissors! It's easy to accidentally cut the skin) and lots of brushing to help her shed the undercoat.
