Why is my puppy vomiting, having diarrhea, eating pebbles, and losing weight?

My pup is passing liquid stool and vomitting yellowish liquid. Also he has been eating sand, tiny pebbles and soil lately. He is also losing weight. I am worried, please help.

I'd be very worried about Posty as well! He is quite sick is he's vomiting and having diarrhea, and I wonder if this pebbles he's been eating is causing a problem causing his symptoms. He may have an obstruction. You cannot treat this at home, you need to take him into a vet immediately.

bloody diarrhea with vomiting at his age is a concern for a severe systemic problem. One would worry about parvovirus or gastroenteritis from eating something he should not have to possibly an obstruction. Your vet can run some test to help diagnose the problem and provide with suitable treatment options. With sudden weight loss he may need to be hospitalized.

I recommend getting your pet in to be seen by your veterinarian right away. Continued vomiting and weight loss together are very concerning and can lead to dehydration and electrolyte imbalance as well as low blood sugar. He might have eaten something that either disagreed with him or something that has gotten stuck somewhere in his gastrointestinal tract. He could be sore from a hidden injury you are unaware of, he could have been exposed to some sort of toxin or irritant in his environment or this could be early signs of another condition or disease process. Your pet may need IV fluids to help support his/her system and to be fasted at the same time in order to give the gut a rest. Your vet can do an exam, blood work and possibly x-rays to determine the cause of the illness and suggest an effective treatment plan.

Hi there! Sorry to hear that he is not feeling well. The clinical signs you describe are concerning when they occur in a puppy as they can be seen with serious gastrointestinal infections such as Parvovirus. Other possibilities include intestinal worms and dietary indiscretion, among other possibilities. The sooner these conditions are treated the better the outcome tends to be. For this reason, I recommend that you have him evaluated by your veterinarian to check for these possibilities and to start therapy based on findings. At the very least they can address dehydration if present and start him on medications to make him feel better. Good luck! Keeping my fingers crossed for your boy!

If a young puppy is vomiting and having diarrhea my biggest concern is parvovirus. This virus can be treated but takes fluids, antibiotics, nausea medication and sometimes pain medication to get them healthy again. It may be something less serious like intestinal parasites but since he's not eating it still needs to be treated. I would recommend taking him to your vet as soon as possible so they can do a fecal test to rule out intestinal parasites and a Parvo test to rule that out as well.

My dog is vomitting white liquid, loss of weight, appetite and liquid feces
Poor guy. Scrappy sounds like he is in pretty bad shape. Based on his severe symptoms I would highly recommend taking him to your nearest vet right away for some testing and treatment depending on his underlying illness. Some possible causes of vomiting, weight loss, appetite and liquid stool are parvovirus, foreign body obstruction or a bacterial infection. The vet will likely start with a parvovirus test (especially if Scrappy is not fully vaccinated), and additional testing if needed. Puppies can get dehydrated very quickly when they are both vomiting and having loose stool. Once we know what is going on with Scrappy, we will know how to treat him and hopefully get him well again. Until you can get him in you should offer him plenty of water and perhaps even Pedialyte (non-flavored) diluted with water and a liquid diet (Ensure) can be tried in small amounts. I hope your puppy Scrappy is able to make a full and speedy recovery. Take care.

I am very concerned about Pilly, it sounds like he has a very upset stomach! My top concern would be a blockage in his intestines caused by something that he ate, like a toy, bone, sock, trash, etc. This would also prevent food from moving through his system and turning into feces. Other possibilities include bacterial or viral infection, intestinal parasites, or other internal issue. I recommend that Pilly see a vet as soon as possible. Your vet will probably recommend x-rays and maybe even blood work depending on what they discover during the physical exam.

Unfortunately, this is not normal behavior for a young puppy and is pretty concerning. At less than two months old, your puppy needs to eat regularly or he risks having low blood sugar, which can cause serious health problems. Vomiting is not typically caused by stress and all these signs make me worry about a more serious illness. Please have him seen by a veterinarian right away because his lack of appetite and vomiting are very serious.

Poor Cooper! I am very concerned about him as he looks very sick. He could have an infection, parasite, intestinal obstruction, or a metabolic/endocrine disease causing his problems. He needs to have a full work-up to determine the cause with blood-work, parasite testing, and abdominal x-rays. Based on his condition he really should be hospitalized on IV fluids and medications to control the vomiting until a diagnosis can be determined.
