Ear infections in cats can also be caused by yeast or bacteria, and are more common causes of ear infections in adult cats. Ear mites are more common in kittens. In order to treat Belle properly, she does have to see a vet, and vets will see pets for sickness. This counts, as leaving it untreated can lead to hearing loss. Give her vet a call to make her an appointment.

Ear mites are very easy to treat and should not keep recurring unless this is an outdoor only/feral cat. I really don't think ear mites is the problem. What "medication" have you been using? Coconut oil will do nothing for an ear infection or ear mites; all it is doing is making a mess and can actually make it worse. I'm guessing she probably has an ear infection from either bacteria, yeast or a combination of both. She may also have ceruminous gland hyperplasia or polyps in the ears. You really need to have her examined by a vet so they can look into the ears with an otoscope and then do a cytology (look at the ear wax under the microscope to see what is there). That is where I would start.

Please do not put any more olive oil in Lady's ear, it will not cure the ear infection and will make it worse. Do not use vinegar either. You need to take Lady into a vet right away for treatment. It's very important to have any ear infection treated promptly, as leaving it untreated can lead to hearing loss. The vet can diagnose what is causing the ear infection (ear mites, yeast, or bacteria), and can prescribe her an appropriate and safe medication to treat it. Please take her into a vet ASAP.

Poor Red! This ear looks quite sore and infected, so I would definitely recommend taking her to the vet for an exam. It looks like she will likely need oral antibiotics and possibly a steroid or other anti-inflammatory medication, in addition to whatever other treatment might be needed. While it's possible that she could have ear mites, yeast or bacterial ear infections are much more common in dogs - if this is the problem, she will need prescription ear drops from your veterinarian in order to treat the infection.
