Dog scabs in armpits/thighs. Mites or folliculitis? Pet store remedy?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Australian Shepherd | Male | 55 lbs

Our dog has been having scabs in his armpits and below by his thighs. We took him to the vet but they were just showed one on his belly which they said was urine scald. It’s not urine scald. Could it be mites? Or bacterial folliculitis? If so can I get something from a pet store that is antimicrobial that will get rid of it?

You can try this medicated spray once or twice a day on the affected areas. If after a week or so it is not looking better then he may need antibiotics to clear it up. It is really difficult for me to comment much when I haven't seen him myself. https://www.allivet.com/p-6677-douxo-chlorhexidine-micro-emulsion-spray-for-dogs-and-cats-68-oz.aspx?SearchTerm=duoxo+Auto
