My cat got essential oil flea treatment. Is she okay after I wiped it off?

Hello, I used a flea and tick med that contains essential oils and I just found out that’s poisonous to cats. I’ve only used it once and within 10 minutes I had already wiped it off because I found out it can be poisonous. I used a wet rag and a baby wipe to remove what I could. Ive been reading they can have seizures and stuff and now I’m terrified? Should my cat be okay since I’ve only used it once? Thanks!

Since you removed it so quickly, Torti should be ok. Give her a bath now to be safe, and I can give you a safe flea treatment program for her. Wait two days, then give it to her. First, I would give her Capstar. It's a one time pill that starts killing fleas within 30. minutes. Then follow up with a spot on treatment, such as Advantage or Revolution. This is a treatment that has to be used once a month. You will also have to disinfect the environment. Wash her bedding in hot soapy water, and vacuum the furniture and carpet surfaces. You can use a spray to kill fleas in the house, such as Indorex, or a flea bomb would work well to kill the fleas in the home. I hope this helps!

It is harmful to cats if ingested, and this will not work at all for fleas. All you get is a greasy cat. I can give you a flea treatment program for them that is safe as long as they are at least 7 weeks of age. First, I would give them Capstar. It's a one time pill that starts killing fleas within 30 minutes. Then follow up with a spot on treatment, such as Advantage or Revolution. This is a treatment that has to be used once a month. You will also have to disinfect the environment. Wash their bedding in hot soapy water, and vacuum the furniture and carpet surfaces. You can use a spray to kill fleas in the house, such as Indorex, or a flea bomb would work well to kill the fleas in the home. If they are younger than that, you can use Frontline Spray on them. It's safe to use on kittens as young as two days of age. You will still have to disinfect the environment. I hope this helps!

Hi there! Fleas can be frustrating, and unfortunately, most essential oils and flea shampoos are not effective against them, and can potentially be harmful to cats. I highly recommend that you purchase a topical flea medication like Advantage Kitten, Advantage II Kitten, or Frontline for Voodoo as these are safe, proven drugs that work fairly quickly and will bring continued relief. These drugs use the oil glands in the skin to spread over the body and kill fleas. They are not prescription and can be found at most pet stores, like Petco. You should also consider treating your home as fleas do live in the bedding, carpets, and furniture that Voodoo lays or plays on. My suggestion for this is to wash all beds and blankets on the hottest cycle, and use diatomaceous earth on the carpets and couches. Sprinkle diatomaceous earth over the carpets and furniture, wait one hour, then vacuum up the dust. Keep Voodoo out while doing this - though diatomaceous earth is safe for pets, you still don'
