My cat is scooting and licking. Is it worms or time for a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Female | spayed | 12 lbs

My cat has been scooting her bottom on the ground and licking the area continuously. I have not seen any worms in her stool, but read this could be a cause. Just wondering if there are other potential causes and whether or not she will need a vet check-up.

it also could be because of impacted anal glands. If you could take Cleo to your local vets for a check-up that will be great. Impacted anal glands can cause pain during defecation. What is more, it can turn into an abscess if left untreated.

Scooting on the butt is an indication of itchiness. Trump could be suffering from intestinal worms or his anal sacs may be impacted. I would take him into the vet who can diagnose if he has intestinal worms or if his anal sacs are impacted. Should he have intestinal worms, he will need a deworming treatment. The vet can express his anal sacs as needed. Bring along a sample of Trump's feces so the vet can check for intestinal worms.
