My cat's back leg hurts and he hissed. Should I see a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Manx | Male | neutered | 7 years old | 11 lbs

My cat, Cosmo, got out this evening (ran past me as I was closing a screen; he never does that but he chased a cat he saw that was in my backyard) my cat is a manx and does not jump well, and i'm not sure if he chased the cat over our wall (it was dark), but when he came back his back leg on the right seemed to cause him pain- he ate a can of food and some treats and laid down, but when he stood up he hissed at us- I'm no sure if I should rush him to the vet?

Hello, it's probably painful, but if he is still using that leg quite well when walking then there is no reason to panic, just keep him at home rested for a few days, try to not encourage him to jump or run, he should improve within 2-3 days.
