My cat has hair loss around eyes and green eye discharge. What to do?

my cat as very minimal hair loss around her eyes and keeps getting green brown eye boogers, is this most likely bacterial?

It may be but I can't say for certain without seeing her. Any eye problem needs to be checked out by a vet promptly as leaving it untreated can lead to vision loss. I'd have her seen by a vet in the morning.

    Yes you can wipe it off, but Sweet Pea will also need to see a vet. It sounds like she has an eye infection and it's bothering her because she is rubbing her eye on stuff. Leaving this untreated can lead to vision loss.

There are a multiple things that can cause hairloss in cats including bacterial infections, fungal infections (ringworm), allergies, mites, and fleas. She should be examined by a vet to determine the cause and treatment. Your vet may need to do some diagnostic tests to diagnose the problem.

I would agree that you are correct that it could be an infection. I would recommend tonight to flush his eyes with sterile saline in case he got something in there. We noticed that our cat started squinting in one eye after coming back from the vet. It started with squinting, then her eye became watery, discharge started forming and her eye became cloudy. We reached out the vet who prescribed up with the ointmen
Izzy's eye is extremely bad and this is now a medical emergency. Without seeing her in person, I can't say what is causing this issue but she could go blind without immediate veterinary attention. Please take her into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website. Best of luck.

My cat has a small patch of fur above her left eye that’s thinning out. She turned 1 in April, she’s a Russian blue, she’s eating and drinking fine and using her litter box normally. Should I be concerned or is it just extra summer shedding?
This presentation could be due to a trauma or localized spot of skin infection (likely to be caused by bacteria). There is some redness underneath the fur, which may indicate an inflammation and not only a physiological shedding. A check up, appropriate disinfection and possibly antibiotics (oral, topical or in a shampoo formulation) are needed to solve the problem. Disinfection may be started at home with very diluted hibiscrub or betadine or salted water baths (be careful not to touch the eye with any of these solutions). Buster collar may be useful as well to avoid any scratching (if any). Hi and thank you for your post.! It is hard to see and make out the detailing the pictures- there is a flash there. However, hair loss around an eye in cats may be suspicious to fungal infection (ringworm) which typically occurs around the face. A veterinarian can diagnosis this with a fungal culture. My cat is suddenly losing hair around his eyes. One is worse than the other and is slightly inflamed. No fights. Indoor cat. Just relocated from FL to NJ. What might be the cause?
I am sorry to hear about Onyx. I would wonder with the change in location if this could be allergy related. We can sometimes see irritation/inflammation around the eyes due to allergies. We can also see this with some mites, bacterial or viral infections, or autoimmune diseases. I would recommend an examination by a veterinarian to try to pinpoint the underlying cause. They can then prescribe either oral or topical medications depending on what they determine the cause of the hair loss to be. Best of luck to you and Onyx!

My cat has watery discharge from his eyes. he has got sime skin problems also.there is small small bumps..brown in colour..and that area bumpy area is gone bald..what is this?
I am so sorry to hear that Alp is experiencing these problems with her eyes. Thank you for providing an excellent picture, they seem red and have discharge. Start by placing an e-collar or cone on Alp to prevent scratching or rubbing. If the eye is infected it is likely painful, this will prompt Alp to scratch or rub his eye. However, this could inflict further damage, infection or even an ulceration. Because eye concerns with cats, such as infections, corneal ulcerations, cataracts and glaucoma, can progress rapidly, and can result in blindness, I would have him examined by your veterinarian to diagnose the issue. The precise medication can then be dispensed by your veterinarian. Please do not attempt to treat an eye infection at home with any over the counter medications, drops or ointments. This can lead to permanent damage and unnecessary pain or discomfort. I hope this answer was helpful and that Alp feels better soon. Warmest regards to you both!

ok so my 17 year old cat has sores and hair loss around ears and around eyes. to compound the situation she is having dark drainage from the ears, eyes, and nose....
This could be caused by a secondary bacterial infection, mites, fleas or an allergic reaction, it sounds quite severe, I wouldn't wait any longer, you need to take her to the vet in order to get it treated.
