My senior cat is vomiting frequently after eating. Should I worry?

I have a cat around 12 years old, she started to vomit very often in the recent time. Usually the vomiting happens after eating food. I did try buying different kinds of food, the food for eldery cats but nothing seems to help. The cat stopped exiting the house about a year ago because we are living on the 4th floor and she is I assume having trouble going up and down through the stairs (I tried taking her by myself but she is resisting while carry her). Should I be worried?

Yes, I would be worried. Vomiting in elderly cats can be a sign of a medical illness such as kidney failure, diabetes, hyperthyroidism, or even cancer. I'd take her into a vet today for a geriatric blood panel and urinalysis. Based on the results of the tests, the vet can discuss treatment options. I hope this helps.

Yes, I would be worried about Lily because vomiting isn't normal. In a senior cat, this vomiting could be caused by kidney disease, liver disease, diabetes, hyperthyroidism, a GI illness, or eating something rotten. I am very sorry to hear that Your cat is experiencing these troubling clinical signs. Unfortunately in elderly cats vomiting, weight loss and changes in appetite and drinking habits could be the first signs of potentially serious medical Conditions, which require bloodwork and a physical exam by your vet to diagnose. Because these symptoms have been noticed over a week period, I would suggest scheduling a visit in the next few days. If Your cat becaomes depressed, has difficulty breathing, or collapses I would take him in immediately. The vet will test for common metabolic diseases of elderly cats such as kidney disease, hyperthyroidism and diabetes, and may want to perf advanced imaging of the chest and abdomen using an X-ray or ultrasound to check for masses, intestinal blockages, and foreign bodies. I was just wondering since Miss Kitty will turn 12 yrs old on 24th of this month, what would make her throw up her dry Meow Mix I've had her on since she was a kitten ? Hoping it's her just over eatting.
It can be due to an illness. In cats that are Miss Kittys's age, vomiting could be due to something like kidney disease, diabetes, hyperthyroidism, or even cancer. I would have her seen by a vet in the morning. Best of luck.

I would be worried about Princess as vomiting five time in under an hour is a lot of vomiting. It's also concerning that her appetite has gone down in the past couple of days as well. In a senior cat, this could be caused by a GI illness, a foreign body, pancreatitis, or something more serious such as kidney failure, liver disease, diabetes, or even cancer. Given the amount of times she has vomited in such a short period of time, I would have her seen by a vet now. Please take her into an ER vet clinic; if there isn't one in your area, there will be a vet on call for emergencies. The information to reach that vet is found on a clinic's answering machine or website. Best of luck!

It is not normal for a cat to vomit that frequently, so your cat may have inflammatory bowel disease or another type of chronic gastrointestinal disease. Since it has been going on for so, a diet change may not be enough at this point. The ideal situation would be to have your veterinarian do some testing to determine what is causing the vomiting. If that is not an option, then I would discuss treatment options with your veterinarian. There are a number of medications that may be able to resolve the vomiting. Good luck! Some causes for intermittent vomiting in a cat her age include a food allergy, IBD, issues with her liver/gallbladder or even intestinal cancer. With those conditions the normal blood tests can all be normal. She may need an ultrasound of her belly to see exactly what is causing her vomiting.

Monet definitely needs to see a vet as soon as possible. It's not normal for a cat to vomit, and in a 15 year old cat, this can be caused by kidney failure, diabetes, hyperthyroidism, or cancer among other causes. I'm sorry that you are dealing with this with Laundry. There are a number of anti-nausea medications that can be helpful for Laundry. And if your veterinarian has not recently checked his blood work (including a thyroid level) and blood pressure, I would certainly recheck those values to make sure that they are normal. Then, you can discuss the best anti-nausea medication with your veterinarian to help Laundry feel better. They will not want to do a teeth cleaning on him if he is not feeling well, so be sure to have them evaluate Laundry and solve this problem first. Good luck! I hope that was helpful. Poor Rascal! I see he's a senior cat, and in cat his age, this vomiting could be due to kidney disease, diabetes, hyperthyroidism, or even cancer. I would have him seen by a vet tonight to have a physical exam, geriatric blood panel, and urinalysis done. Whenever a cat has been vomiting for more than 24 hours, especially a senior cat, it's very important to have them checked out by a vet right away. Using the tests I mentioned above, the vet can diagnose the cause of his vomiting, and can discuss treatment options with you. I would take Rascal into an ER vet now, or find a vet on call to see him right away.

I'm sorry this is going on with Precious but she needs to see a vet. The most common issues we see with older cats are: 1. diabetes 2. kidney disease/failure 3. hyperthyroidism Any of those can cause her symptoms and all are treatable (to an extent). All can be ruled out with simple blood testing. The best one she could have is hyperthyroidism - it is not expensive to diagnose or treat. Of course it may not be any of those and she could have something else going on entirely. First step is you need to know what the diagnosis is. I don't know what prices are in your area but an exam and bloodwork is probably right around $200. All you can do is call around for prices and see what you can work out. Some humane societies these days have low cost services so maybe check with them.
