How to stop my cat crying all night after moving into a new apartment?

My boyfriend and I just recently moved in together and I brought my 3 year old cat with us. He used to live withy parents and I with our 2 other cats. At our new apartment he sits outside of our door and cries all night. I’ve slept on the couch for the past couple days and I’m not sure what I’m supposed to do.

Peewee may be lonely if he was previously living with two other cats. That may be why he's crying. I'd play with him a lot more during the day to tire him out, and you might consider getting another cat in the home to give him companionship. I hope this helps!

Thanks for using Boop by Petco! I would encourage you to enrich his environment inside by adding toys, scratch pads and other things that he can find interesting. I also really like a product called Feliway which helps to make cats feel more at ease in their environment. This is something you can easily get from your pet store or online. It can take your kitten a week or two to acclimate to its new surroundings. He has to get used to his new environment and used to the fact that he's not around his littermates and mother anymore. Just keep giving him plenty of attention and affection and he should be fine in no time.

It sounds like you have an active young kitty cat! Well, unfortunately, you are doing many of things I would suggest for you to do already. However, we have not yet exhausted all of our options. It sounds like Ginger is experiencing some level of distress, whether or not its due to separation or a need for attention is very hard to say. I would consider adding some Feliway Diffusers into the home. They can be found on Amazon or at a local pet store. They send out pheromones into the environment that aim to calm the cat. They also make direct sprayers that you can put onto objects or even directly onto the kitty himself. If this sort of thing works, it usually doesn't happen overnight. Another option, which may not be possible and might sound insane, would be getting a second kitty. Ginger just may need a friend to keep her company when you aren't around. Two weeks ago I moved into a new house. My 13 year old and 4 year old female cats have adapted well. My 8 year old male, Watson, wanders the house at night yowling. I've given him calming treats, canned food, favorite toys, and used Feliway diffusers
If at-home treatments haven't been helping you may want to talk to your vet about a short-term sedative or anxiety medication that may help Watson during the transition and is a little more powerful than calming treats or pheromone diffusers. Once he seems settled in, you may then be able to gradually back off the medication and return to normal. Ruling out any health issues while you are there such as pain, blindness, hearing issues, etc may also be helpful as these can cause confusion and yowling in cats as well. Adding in a few nightlights, especially if Watson is an older cat that may have trouble seeing may help him calm down, especially if the yowling happens at night. Providing plenty of places for him to hide, perch, or explore safely may also help him to settle in.

The best solution is to let him go wherever he wants in the house, this is your best chance at getting some sleep, but kittens this age are very active at night and you can expect intensive night action for the next 3 months.

Thank you for using Boop by Petco. I'm sorry for the loss of your cat, and it sounds like Brostom is taking it pretty hard. Our pets experience grief and loss, and just like people, it takes them a variable amount of time to deal with that loss. If Brostom was very close with the other cat, he might benefit from having another cat in the home to keep him company. If you decide to pursue this, I recommend a slow introduction and keeping the new cat in a separate room for a few days where they can smell each other under the door. If this increases Brostom's agitation, then it might not work, but I think it would be worth trying. I hope this helps.

Is he a young cat? If so he may be looking for something to do such as hunting. If he is an older cat then I would be worried about possible hyperthyroidism or diabetes. You may want to consider different toys or tall cat trees that allow him to watch birds out of the window. If you have any concerns that something isn’t quite right then I would encourage you to have him evaluated by your veterinarian to rule out any medical concerns. Well, you’re both right. Halley has trained you well! She has figured out that if she cries, you will come and play. But on the other hand, an 8 week old kitten really can be very stressed and upset about being all alone. I’d consider a compromise like keeping her in a little carrier at night in your room. That way she can see and smell you at least. Try to comfort and pet her when she is NOT crying so that she learns that meowing is not the way to get things. Best wishes to you and Halley!

I'm not sure if you just got Rhenso, but if you did, moving into a new home is stressful for a kitten, and he could be expressing that stress via vocalization. He would also be lonely and crying out for love and attention. Finally, it could be due to a medical problem, such as pain, and to rule that out, I would have him seen by a vet. After a medical cause if rule out, the vet can discuss behavioral treatment with you for his vocalization.

I wouldn't say this is necessarily a common phenomenon but it is possible Jordan knows where he is and thinks of this home as his 'home territory' and is most comfortable here. Some cats are very territory oriented. I hope this helps and please feel free to post any additional questions.
