How old is my found kitten, and can I safely bathe her for fleas and dirt?

Found a abandoned kitty yesterday,and it drinks the formula..pooped and peed on stimulation...has 4 canine teeth..how old she is...and can I give her a bath it has some fleas and its dirty

April is soooo cute! I can't stand how cute she is! Her eyes are open, so she is at least 3 weeks of age. Yes you can give her a bath but do not use flea shampoo, she is too young for it. Use a gentle dish soap, and comb the fleas out.

Cute kitty. This is likely a flea and actually you can bathe kitty as early as 2 weeks of age, since that is when most kitties can regulate their own body temperature. Fleas are very small and move very fast. They can cause itching and also they can carry tapeworms which can come out in the stool and look like little grains of rice. And actually Pinky is old enough for topical Revolution flea prevention, which is ok to give to kitty’s who are at least 6 weeks of age. Ask your vet for a prescription, since this is not available over the counter. But you can go ahead and bathe Pinky now, just blow dry him a bit to speed up the drying process if it is cold temperature where you are. I have a kitten who is 5 weeks old and she has fleas! I gave her a bath and removed some fleas but I wasn't able to get them all. What do you suggest I do?
Since your kitten is still too young for flea meds, you can try to give her a bath using some Dawn dish soap to kill any fleas on her body. You can then use a flea or fine toothed comb to remove the dead fleas from her after her bath. Keeping her environment clean by washing bedding, vacuuming baseboards, etc can also help remove fleas and eggs from the environment to help prevent reinfection. Once she is old enough, switching to a topical preventive flea medication can help.

Hi, we just adopted a 2 month old male kitten from a shelter and found out he has fleas. Can I use dawn dish detergent to bathe him?
Hello. Yes you can. But there are other flea options to use on kittens 8 weeks & older including Frontline, but Dawn is absolutely safe to use & it does kill fleas. Just keep the soap away from his eyes & mouth. Thanks for using Boop by Petco.

Which shampoo and when i can give my kitten a bath? Her age is 2.5 months
You can give her a bath at any time! A soothing shampoo with aloe or oatmeal can help keep her skin from becoming too dry. If she doesn't like the bath, you can also use pet or baby wipes to wipe down any very dirty areas, or even a wet washcloth with a little waterless shampoo sprayed onto it.

I gave my 4 week old kitten a bath for the first time (flea and tick shampoo from Walmart, she recently got fleas from a dog) and she is not sneezing and breathing funny, I'm very worried she's never done this before
That shampoo is labeled for kittens that are over 12 weeks of age. She is really too young to shampoo her with a flea product. I am a little bit confused when you say "she is NOT sneezing and breathing funny" and I am assuming you meant to say she is NOW. If she is sneezing and breathing funny, you could re-wash to try and get any remaining flea shampoo off of her. You could use a small amount of regular dawn dish soap or a mild cat shampoo that is safe to use on kittens. She should also be examined by a vet as soon as possible as those products can be toxic to cats, especially if not used correctly. Please call your vet and have her seen, especially if she is having difficulty breathing!!

I just got a kitten yesterday. We found out yesterday that she has fleas all over her. I tried to wash her with Dawn dish detergent and got a flea comb but that didn't help at all. I don't want her to get sick. What can I do?
I would wash her again in dawn as This should kill some of the fleas. You cannot our topical flea product on her until she is at least 8 weeks old usually but this varies depending on the product you choose. If she is over 2 pounds your vet may be able to provide you will a cap star pill which will kill all the fleas on her for a 24 hour period. I would make sure she is eating and drink and playing normally. I would also take her to your vet next week to make sure she doesn’t look anemic and to see if they have anything else you can use on her. I hope this helps!

I would recommend taking Bynx to a veterinarian. Sometimes young kittens can become constipated, or if you are unable to stimulate her to urinate she may not be producing urine because she is dehydrated. A veterinarian would also be able to discuss bottle feeding with you, although at her age she may be old enough to start eating some kitten food as well. I wouldn't recommend using any flea preventatives on her before seeing a veterinarian - in a kitten that young I typically recommend bathing with Dawn dish soap and flea combing, however if she is sick in any way a bath could be very stressful and could cause hypothermia.

Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! You are fine bathing Franky! I would use a safe non irritating shampoo like dawn or a baby shampoo. He is a young kitten so bathing him shouldn't be as scary as it would for an adult cat. He will likely just be scared and try to climb out of the tub or climb you. Consider clipping his toe nails before the bath! Good luck!

How would you treat a 4 week kitten with flea anemia and severe flea infestation?
I would recommend a Dawn dish soap bath with warm water and make sure you dry Sally well. I would look for a product called Frontline Spray, which should be labeled for young cats. Once she is 6-8 weeks, talk to a vet in your area about topical products, like Revolution or Frontline Gold. I also recommend treating the house for fleas with a carpet spray. Remember to throw out the vacuum bag and treat the other pets in the house for fleas. Make sure Sally is eating a quality diet with the proper vitamins and minerals the help the anemia. If the anemia is severe, she may require a blood transfusion. Kisses to Sally!

At what age a newborn kitten can take a bath?
Kittens and cats do not need to be bathed because they clean themselves. Bathing them removes important oils and can cause itching and skin infections. I would not recommend bathing unless she is covered in a large amount of dirt. You can purchase pet cleaning wipes from a pet store to clean her without bathing.
