Is my cat having a vaccine reaction? He's jittery and breathing fast.

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Male | neutered | 1 year and 7 months old | 3 lbs

My 1.5 year old cat had 2 vaccinations (FE3 Feligen ECP and Rabies Rabigen Mono), plus mediworm, around 30 hours ago. For around the last 4 hours he has been acting very differently to normal. Normally he is quite kitten-like, playful and sleepy in equal amounts. However he's been very jittery, breathing very quickly, appearing that he can 'see' things and running at them when there's nothing there. He is licking his back, paws and sides quite aggressively. He has not lost his appetite though.

It sounds like a type of vaccination reaction. This could last 24-48 hours. As long as he is eating just monitor him and make sure he doesn't get worse. In the future it is recommended he not receive all of those vaccines and deworming at once.
