My pet has GME. What tests are needed and can they be saved?

Piper died from GME. What tests. How do you know what to do and can you save them. Pet's info: Dog | Chow Chow | Female | spayed | 65 lbs

CT, MRI, and spinal tap can sometimes diagnose GME, but not all the time. The prognosis is very poor, even with every treatment available. Steroids are used at very high doses to try to decrease the inflammation, but there is no one cure for every patient.
