My dog has dried gunk in his ear and shakes his head. What to do?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 1 year and 3 months old | 65 lbs

Is this normal? Does my dog need medicine? He doesn’t seem too bothered by it, but occasionally shakes his head. He lets me touch his ears without issue. I’ve attached a picture of each ear.

It looks like there is some dried discharge on the ear. If it isn't bothering Rubble, then I would just wash it out with some warm water and make sure he isn't rubbing the ear or shaking his head. You can also apply Neosporin. If it isn't looking better in a few days, you should call the vet.
