Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Female | spayed
About once a week, my dog will lose her appetite and will get a lot of gurgling noises in her stomach. The noises are extremely loud. She had no vomitting or diahrea but she will have a bowel movement that looks like it had bloody chicken fat in it. After she has the bowel movement, she regains her appetite and seems totally fine. She's had blood work done 2 weeks ago and everything came back normal. She was also tested for pancreatitis which was negative. Any ideas?

You might try a diet change and see if something else would sit better on her tummy. You may try a low residue diet like Royal Canin Sensitive Stomach. Purina ProPlan makes a sensitive stomach that is good as well. You may also ask your veterinarian about trying a prescription bland diet or even a food trial with a hydrolyzed protein. Give any diet you try 1 month to take full effect and make sure to transition any diet changes over 5-7 days. I hope this helps.

In a young dog such as yours this can often be due to coccidia or other intestinal parasites. If she’s lethargic and there is a lot of bloody poop and she’s not eating then take her in right away since this could be a serious gastrointestinal problem. If she’s otherwise fine, eating and drinking then I recommend checking a fecal sample. If she has coccidia that needs prescription medication from your veterinarian to treat, an over the counter dewormer will not be effective.
