My husky has chronic diarrhea. What's the right Metronidazole dose?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Siberian Husky | Female | unspayed | 4 years and 4 months old

My husky has diarrhea for more than 1 month now. She was given probiotics for 2 weeks and few days ago i started with antibiotics (Metronidazole 400 mg in every 8h). She has 18.5 kilos. Should I increase the dosage? What else do you recommend? Thanks!

Her maximum daily dosage for 18.5kg is 900mg per day. I would not be giving 400mg three times a day as it could cause neurologic effects. You could try a bland diet of cooked white rice and boiled chicken breast or talk to your vet about deworming or a hypoallergenic diet.
