My dog ate grass and threw up. Is eating garbage dangerous for her?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | spayed | 7 years and 3 months old | 55 lbs

Reeses started eating some grass today and she has never done that, then she threw up and it her throw up was mostly dog food and then a tiny lil blue thing that looked like it had a tag attached to it. So she may have gotten in our garbage. She came outside again after and nibble a little more on some grass. Otherwise seems normal. Should i be worried?

Vomiting is always concerning, and it may be Reeses ate something from the garbage upsetting her stomach. I can give you a home remedy for her to see if that helps. Withhold food tonight, then feed a bland diet of boiled white meat chicken (no bones) and white rice in small amounts several times a day for a couple of days. Then slowly add back in her normal diet. If the vomiting continues in the absence of food, she refuses to eat the bland diet, she vomits the bland diet, develops diarrhea, stops drinking water, starts vomiting water, or becomes very lethargic, she will need to see a vet right away.
