Is DiaGel for dogs safe for cats? My cat drooled after taking it.

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Shorthair | Male | neutered | 5 years and 9 months old | 15.4 lbs

I brought my cat to the vet for vomiting. He was given DiaGel for small dogs (1-30 pounds). I got 0.2 mL into his mouth which he spit most of it out and then started drooling right after and didn’t stop for about 5 minutes. Can cats have Diagel for dogs? I was looking into some of the ingredients and became concerned when I read that some were toxic to cats

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Pascal. I'm sorry he's sick! DiaGel can be used in cats, and this may be an off label use of the product. If you have some concerns about, which I understand, don't use it and give your vet a call. Based on the ingredients, it looks to be a holistic product, not a prescription one. I hope this helps!

Hello. While there are no absolute contraindications for using this in cats, it should not be relied on to control diarrhea. Kaolin/pectin should not replace adequate fluids/electrolyte monitoring or replacement therapy for severe diarrheas. If your pet's diarrhea persists for more than a few days or is accompanied by lethargy, dehydration, loss of appetite, fever or abdominal pain, please see your veterinarian immediately. she may need antibiotics & more intensive therapy. Hi i accidentally gave my dog nearly twice the dose of Diagel, for her diarrhea. Shes a small elder dachshund that was only supposed to get 1 ml, but i gave 2 ml, is that bad D:
You may see some stomach upset, but the product has a wide margin of safety. If the diarrhea persists, or if Penny develops lethargy, vomiting, loss of appetite or abdominal pain then have her examined by your veterinarian.

I recommend that you have Licorice evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. Thanks for using Boop by Petco! Vomiting and diarrhea can occur secondary to conditions such as inflammatory bowel disease, dietary indiscretion, parasites, among other possibilities. This could certainly be all related. I recommend that you have Jasper evaluated by your veterinarian for further assessment and treatment. At the very least they can start him on medications to make him feel better and check his hydration status. In the meantime, keep water available at all times to try to prevent dehydration. The pet pharmacy gave us sileo as a sedative to use for our cat during traveling. But all I can find online is that it’s for dogs, no mention of cats anywhere. Is sileo safe for cats? Is it effective
Hello. Yes, the medication in Sileo is used in cats all the time, but actually using this particular product in cats is considered extra-label & therefore you are using this at your own risk. Since the smallest amount that can be dispensed from the tube is one dot, I assume that is the maximum that anyone would want to use on a cat, but PLEASE contact your pharmacy or your veterinarian for the exact amount to be used. Otherwise, I can not recommend the use of Sileo in cats. Thanks for using Boop by Petco.

Hello, thank you again for using Boop by Petco. I answered your question yesterday. I researched the product before I answered you and I did not see any harmful ingredients. However, that does not mean no animal will never show any adverse effects. If it does not agree with your cat stop using it. No one can guarantee anything. I have been a veterinarian in the US for close to 20 years and as a certified veterinary technician for 5 years prior to that. I have never heard of this product but that does not mean there is anything wrong with it. There are millions of products in the world marketed towards animals with new ones coming out each day. There is no way to keep up with all of them. Again, I suggest you contact the manufacturer directly for any concerns.

7 yr old cat went to vet 12/14 for case.of diarrhea. Took 8 days of metronidazole - 1/4 (250 mg). Has seemed to respond well until early this morning. Heard her vomiting this morning - although can not find any emysis - and diarrhea in litter box.
Thanks for using Boop by Petco! If she is having diarrhea after the treatment, there is likely something else wrong. I would recommend having her re-examined and do further diagnostics like X-rays and blood work to determine why. If she is still eating and drinking and energetic, you could wait until Tuesday. But if she is vomiting, I would have her treated sooner so she doesn’t get dehydrated. Good luck and kisses to Tuffy!

Hello, my dog was given cat food with chicken broth around 6-630 am est yesterday. She has now devolped the runs with a little bit of throwing up. I gave her a pepcid tab 30mg she is around 55 pounds. Was that okay to give and will my dog be okay?
Hi, thanks for using Boop by Petco! Poor ice! That is the higher end of the dose for Pepcid and shouldn't harm her. Pepcid is just an acid reducer and may help with the vomiting/nausea. Ice likely has gastro-intestinal upset from eating cat food. A lot of dogs can develop vomiting and diarrhea from eating cat food, especially if they have a sensitive stomach. Ice appears to not be able to tolerate sudden food changes. I recommend fasting Ice for 12-24 hours. With hold water for 6 hours from the last vomiting. If there is no vomiting for 6 hours offer small amounts of water and ice chips. If she holds that down and doesn't vomit start feeding her a bland diet after the 12-24 hour fast. Feed boiled chicken or hamburger, about 1 cup per 20 lbs per day until 2 normal stools. If she continues to vomit while fasted or when water or food is introduced then she should see your Vet.
