My dog has a red ring bite. Is it a tick? Should I call a vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Small (up to 22lb) | Male | neutered | 4 years and 11 months old | 20 lbs

Can you help me determine what bit my dog and if I should seek additional help. He has not shown any abnormal signs other than what appears to be a bite or sting encircled by a red ring.

This looks like it could be a tick bite. I would recommend calling your local vet to determine if Sully needs treatment or if he should wait and be tested for tick diseases at a later time. It just depends on what your local area has for tick disease.
