My spayed kitten has puffy, runny eyes and low energy. Is this normal?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Female | spayed | 4 months and 28 days old | 8 lbs

My kitten was spayed on Thursday. Yesterday and told she seems to have no energy and her eyes are all puffy, runny, she only half way opens them, and her third eye is showing. She seems to eat/drink on and go to the bathroom. Her incision site has a little lump but I’m really worried about her eyes.

Hello. Jinger's incision looks great, so this is an upper respiratory infection that was probably incubating in her & has now hit. Call your vet tomorrow to see if any medication is necessary, but most of these respiratory infections will last 10-14 days regardless of medication. The important thing is she is still eating & drinking, & as long as she is, she should recover just fine. I hope Jinger is feeling better soon & thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
