Why is my dog not eating? Could my WFH routine or stress be why?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Large (61lb +) | Male | neutered | 3 years and 8 months old | 86 lbs

Good morning. My dog, Apollo, has not been eating normally. It takes a lot of encouragement from my husband and I to have him eat. Sometimes he still chooses not to eat. The food & treats are the same as he's used to. The only change has been due to covid 19. I have been working from home now and I'm wondering if this could be throwing him for a loop. I'm also wondering if he can feel my sense of unease and stress due to the events in the world right now. Any tips or advice? Thanks.

Hello. Certainly animals can be quite in tune with what is going on around them, especially some dogs that are sensitive. Changes in routine & emotions can definitely play a part. It does not hurt to speak with your veterinarian about this, as they know Apollo's health best, but if he is otherwise acting fairly normal, & just seems a bit off o his appetite, you can monitor things for awhile. If he completely stops eating all food & treats, or develops any vomiting or diarrhea, please have him evaluated as soon as possible. Hopefully, we will all be past this mess soon & thanks for using Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach.
