Applied Sentry flea treatment to my cat's open wound. Is it safe?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

My cat has fleas so I went to the pet store and bought Sentry topical flea and tick medicine for her then came home and applied it as directed. I didn't notice until after I applied it that she has a small open wound so I went online to find out if it's dangerous to apply this medicine on open wounds. I discovered that there are a lot of bad reviews about Sentry making cats sick and now I am worried about her. What should I do?

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Samantha. Sentry is actually a pretty good product, it's one that I recommend, and I would not worry about reviews online. That is anecdotal evidence not scientific evidence. She should be ok. I hope this helps!
