My dogs have kennel cough. Will it keep spreading? Do they need meds?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | neutered | 7 years and 7 months old | 60 lbs

So one of my dogs has Canine cough right now from going to daycare. But I have noticed that two of the others have now started to cough as well. Everyone is staying home and away from other dogs, but I know it is inevitable That all of them will probably get it. Could this keep going around in circles? Once they get it once is that it or could it keep going around? Do I need to get medicine for all (my 3 and my roommates 2) of them or is there things I can do to help?

Thank you for submitting your question regarding your dogs. It sounds like Tate picked up an infection at doggy daycare and then likely spread it to your roommate's dogs. Some dogs will clear the infection on their own. However, if the coughing persists, they will likely need medication. They will need to see a veterinarian in this case. In the meantime, keep them quiet and at home. They are likely contagious to other dogs. They will not keep passing the infection between them though. Each dog should develop some immunity after being infected. I hope this information helps!
