My dog is pooping blood. Are home remedies safe or should I see a vet?

Pooping blood could be due to intestinal worms, eating something toxic, hemorrhagic gastroenteritis, parvovirus if Happy isn't vaccinated, or a foreign body. Pooping blood can have very serious causes, so he really does need to see a vet now. Vets are seeing patients for emergency cases, so call your vet now to see he can be seen by a vet.

It's not good that Jack is pooping blood! This can be caused by trauma to the GI tract, a foreign body, GI ulcers, eating something toxic, intestinal parasites, or hemorrhagic gastroenteritis. There are some very serious causes behind a dog pooping blood, and when this happens, a immediately trip to the vet is recommended. I would take Jack into an ER vet or find a vet on call to see him ASAP so he can have the cause of his bloody feces diagnosed and treated.

Oh no, Chaquita! There can be several conditions that cause pure blood in the stool (referred to as hematochezia), and these include hemorrhage gastroenteritis (HGE), a bleeding ulcer, cancer, parvovirus, a clotting disorder (from rat poison ingestion or genetic), among others. Regardless of the cause, this is a very concerning sign because it can rapidly lead to blood loss and dehydration. Chaquita needs to be taken to an ER vet immediately for an exam, lab testing (CBC, chemistry, coagulation panel), and supportive care (IV fluids, etc.).

Hi and thanks for using Boop by Petco! Sorry to hear about Happy. Dark red diarrhea can be a sign of intestinal bleeding from the stomach or the small intestines. I don't think this could be related to the beef she was given as that was 2 weeks ago and would be atypical anyways. I would advise that if this continues, worsens, or other signs develop, you should take Happy to your veterinarian to have her evaluated. Your vet can gather a detailed history and perform a thorough examination. From those, a diagnostic/treatment plan can be developed and started. Possible problems include intestinal parasites, gastrointestinal ulcer, toxin exposure, infection, inflammation, foreign body ingestion, nutritional problems, among many other things. Your vet may advise fecal/blood/urine tests and some imaging studies (x-rays, ultrasound) to get started. Once the cause is determined or suspected a treatment plan can be started. What can cause blood in a dogs stool and spewing blood
Generally, a severe infection or toxin ingestion. If it's a puppy, then I would be most worried about parvovirus. Either way, it's an emergency and not something you would be able to deal with at home. It's best to get Tigger to a vet ASAP, because she can quickly lose a lot of blood and become dehydrated with this condition.

It's worth getting it checked out with your vet, in case he has picked up an intestinal parasite or has some irritation in his lower GI tract. That the blood is red means it's fresh, therefore being shed very low in the GI tract or his rectum or anus. It may be anal glands that are inflamed, there are a few possibilities. Your vet will do an exam, some labwork, and based on these results will be better able tot ell you what is going on and the best treatment options for your dog.

It could be that Tinker has diarrhea with blood in it from eating something rotten, a foreign body, parvovirus if he isn't fully vaccinated, intestinal worms, or hemorrhagic gastroenteritis among other causes. When a dog has diarrhea for over 24 hours and when there is blood present in it, it's time to see a vet. This is nothing something that should be treated at home because there can be serious and potentially deadly causes to it. I would take Tinker into a vet as soon as possible. Best of luck.

The past 2 days my dog has been completely acting fine all day and night, but the past 2 mornings he has been popping blood. He will poop through out the day and not have any blood but does in the morning.
Fresh blood in loose stool can be caused by a food indiscretion, intestinal parasites, inflammation of the large bowel and or rectum, an intestinal injury, stress, and a few other causes. Since bleeding into the bowel means that there is an open blood vessel through which intestinal bacteria have access to areas of the body where they should not be and cause more disease. So it is important that your dog needs to be seen by a veterinarian for an exam and needs to have a fecal exam as well, medications according to the exam findings and diagnosis, and prescription antibiotics. Please schedule an appointment with your vet. In the meantime you can start feeding your dog some bland food such as boiled white rice and boiled white boneless chicken meat, fed in small quantities over several feeds and then transition back to regular food slowly over a few days.

9 yr old dog, vomit x 2 last night and this am, ate afterward no vomit after that but had blood (bright red) in stool a couple hours ago. Emergency or appointment on Monday?
Bright red blood in the feces is not normal, and could be caused by hemorrhagic gastroenteritis, a foreign body, eating something rotten, or cancer. Given Cody's age and the fact that he was vomiting previously, it would be best for him to see an emergency vet in my opinion.

My dog is pooping blood for a week.
It sounds as Caramelo is suffering from a gastrointestinal condition, possibly an infection. it could also be due to ingestion of a foreign body material. i would recommend taking her to the vet the first chance you get, she will need to be checked first, if the vet thinks it's a simple gastrointestinal infection she will need an anti vomiting injection, antibiotics and a special food for a few days in order to get better. if the vet thinks it is more serious she will need a blood test and possibly an ultrasound in order to find out what is wrong.
