My cat's spay incision is swollen with discharge. ER or morning?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 5 months and 21 days old | 5 lbs

Should she see an emergency vet or should I take her in the morning? Beans was spayed on the 17th. On the 20th she broke out of quarantine and went nuts. I found her in my attic. So yesterday I put some jammies on her, it looked like she licked, it but now I'm wondering if she hurt herself. She was put back in their room. A little reassurance is what I'm after. I called my vet 2 hours ago and have not heard back yet.

Thank you for contacting Petco Pet Education Center, formerly Petcoach with your question about Beans. Oh no, poor girl. I do see a bit of bloody discharge and it does appear there is some swelling. I do think this should be checked out by a vet, but it can wait until the morning as long as the swelling doesn't increase, she is eating and drinking normally, she isn't lethargic, and there isn't a large amount of discharge. Should any of those things happen, then I would take her into an ER vet right away. I hope this helps!
