My cat keeps scratching his eye injury. Should I take him to the vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Domestic Longhair | Male | neutered | 5 years and 8 months old | 8.5 lbs

My roommate got a kitten who is rough with my older cat. I noticed scratches around my cat’s eyes, most of which have healed, and we keep the cats separate when we’re not home now. However, one patch above my cat’s eye doesn’t seem to be getting better and he scratches at it. Is this it healing or should I bring him to the vet?

It looks like poor Gryffin has been irritating the area by scratching at it. I would get a cone to prevent him from causing more damage until you can get an appointment with your veterinarian. I would keep the area clean and dry and try not to let him rub it.

Yes, I recommend to have Gryffin checked for ringworm (which people can get), that looks suspicious though it could be an infected scratch. Just in case, here is a link: https://www.petcoach.co/article/ringworm-in-cats/ I hope this helps.
