My cat is limping and won't let me touch his paw. Is it his claw?

Pet's info: Cat | Snowshoe | Male | neutered

So today i noticed my cat walking around not using his back left paw and when he layed down i got a good look at it. I think it has to do something with his claw because when i tried to touch it he didn’t let me. and i don’t know if the vet is opened because of this corona outbreak. please send help :(

It looks like Oliver has been licking the area, so it is bothering him. He's also in pain if he's limping. I do know there are vets open despite this outbreak, so give your vet a call to get him seen.

Thank you for submitting your question regarding Charlie. I would recommend that he sees his veterinarian. He may have a broken nail, an infection in the nail bed or a muscular injury. Depending on his age, he could have joint pain such as arthritis as well. If he is limping, that means he is painful. Most cats are quite stoic and will not cry when you touch the painful area. In the meantime, try to keep him quiet to allow him to rest. This can be hard with cats though! Do not give any over-the-counter pain medication as it can be toxic to cats. I hope this information helps!

It sounds like he hurts pretty bad! If there is an emergency clinic available in your area I would recommend having him seen tonight, otherwise I would try to get him in to your regular veterinarian tomorrow morning. Trauma and potentially infection or abscess are high on my list of possible problems. They may recommend an x-ray. Good luck and I hope he improves soon!

Hello I have a male cat he was/is a stray but likes to visit for food and warm over the cold nights and his back paw he can't put it down nothing visible as I can see but only one claw sticking out all the time can you help me find out what's the mat
It is impossible to know what is causing him to be lame without an examination. The best thing would be to have a vet take a look at him to do an orthopedic examination and take an xray, if needed, to determine the exact cause. He could have an infection, fracture, or strain/sprain. Once diagnsed, your vet can decide the best way to treat his problem. He may just need an antibiotic and/or an anti-inflammatory/pain medications. I hope Smokey feels better soon!

Hi , my pet cat suddenly lost hair in its back and that area of skin has become red and it's limping a bit on the hind legs due to this. Due to covid lockdown am not able to take it to a vet doctor. Please help.
Poor kitty. This looks like a really bad skin infection and could be due to an underlying flea allergy. Luckily veterinary hospitals are considered an essential business, so most are open even with the lockdown keeping other things closed. Your cat needs to see a vet to get this taken care of and also figure out what is causing him to limp? He will need at the very least antibiotics to help clear up this skin infection. I do hope that you are can find an open vet close to you soon. Best of luck and take care.

3 weeks ago my cat had an infection in his back paw, got an antibacterial shot, healed up, was fine. 2 days ago he started limping which was weird. Today he won't let anyone near him and has a spot of blood on this same paw he's limping on, same paw
Poor guy. It seems he likely injured the paw again. If it hurts this bad, then I worry about a fracture as well. I would recommend not touching the area and getting him to your local vet as soon as you can. If you cannot tonight, then taking him to any vet that is open tomorrow morning (after hours clincis likely are) would be the best thing to do for Pooh Bear. You may want to investigate the home to hopefully find out where he is likely getting his injuries from. If he is an outdoor/indoor cat, then its best to have him neutered and/or kept indoors to help avoid further injuries. Intact male cats tend to pick more fights when they are outside, than neutered ones. I hope that your furry friend gets his injury resolved soon! Best wishes and take care.

Hi, in the first picture it looks like there could be a bit of infection as the fluid seems cloudy. Looking at the second one the skin lesion looks more like podo dermatitis, an inflammation of Jeff's pad. I think it is worthy to have hm checked over, in order to get some medications and help him towards a speedy recovery. If you don't take him to see your vet, his foot will continue to get worse and every time he puts his foot down to walk he will be in a lot of pain. I think your vet will not need to run tests but just give him some medications and therefore cost should be limited. All the best and thank you for using Boop by Petco !

Hello. The most common injuries we see in cats are bite wounds that develop into abscesses, & paws that are stepped on or get slammed in doorways. If Midnight goes outdoors, I would guess he got in a fight with another cat. My 3 yr old cat came home from an all night out limping and growls when I pick him up. He is walking on 3 legs and favoring front left paw. No cuts, bites or blood visible. seems traumatized- what should I do?
Ideally, he should be physically examined by your veterinarian. He may have been bitten by another cat which would explain his symptoms. A cat bite can be difficult to detect and can abscess and be quite painful. Antibiotics and pain medication may be indicated.

Stray cat adopted me... he is not bearing weight on right front paw... behind claw noticed this...think its a pad as similar on other paw but not as visible.. bites me scratches and hisses only when i touch the black dot...no pain displayed anywhere
It's difficult to tell from the pictures, but I suspect that you are talking about the pad just above the dew claw (the claw that is similar to our thumb) on the inside of the foot. There should be a paw pad in that location, so that is not abnormal and they can be colored black or pink. An injury to that digit does not often cause limping because cats do not put weight on that digit when they walk. So, that may not be the cause of Trouble's limping. Unfortunately, I don't think we will be able to tell unless you have a veterinarian perform an examination on him. Good luck! I hope that was helpful. Thanks for using Boop by Petco.

My cat is limping and not putting any weight on her right front paw. I think she has injured it.
This is obviously a painful condition and your kitty should be examined by a veterinarian ASAP. In the meantime you can closely inspect her paw to see if there is a thorn or other foreign body lodged in it and removed that if you find one. Let her rest, (no wild games) and make an appointment with your veterinarian.
