When can my dog safely play with other dogs after spay surgery?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Female | unspayed | 8 months and 10 days old | 30 lbs

Molly was spayed 3/12. I left the paperwork at work and was just wondering how long I should wait before I let her play outside with Wallace again.

In general, it is advised to restrict a dog's activity by preventing running/jumping/rough play for 10-14 days after a spay surgery to help reduce the risk of surgical complications. Keep the surgical site clean and dry by preventing splashing in mud/ dirt/ water, and take Molly out (on a leash) for short potty breaks only. I hope that helps!
