My dog can't walk on his back legs after jumping. Vet needed?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Mixed Breed Medium (23 - 60lb) | Male | 25 lbs

My 25 lb dog has been in pain and I think he may have pulled muscle in his back legs. He was jumping yesterday and may have landed wrong and since then he’s been crying with movement. He’s unable to bear much weigh on his back legs and lays on one side and cries whenever he has to move. I’mwondering if I should let time see if he’ll get better or bring him in to be checked out?

It sounds like Chief is in a lot of pain. The fact that both hind legs seem affected could indicate something more severe like a slipped disc (which can progress to paralysis if it continues pressing into the spinal cord). I recommend to play it safe and have Chief examined today. He should also be on strict crate rest with absolutely no activity of any type. I hope he feels better quickly!
