My cat has brown discharge under his tail. Vet visit needed?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | American Shorthair | Male | neutered | 2 years and 5 months old | 14 lbs

My kitty came up to me after using the litter box and I noticed a thick liquid under his tail. Pale brown with a bit of red. He seems completely normal, still quite playful and affectionate. I checked the litter box and didnt find any other remnants. I'm wondering if I should take him to the vet immediately, or if i should just monitor for a bit to see if it happens again?

If he is otherwise normal I would continue to monitor the litter box as well as his thirst and appetite for any other indications of gastroenteritis. A probiotic and bland diet would be recommended as a precautions, as well as an oral deworming medication if not given in the last 3 months
