My corgi puppies ate snus. Are they safe after vet treatment?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Dog | Pembroke Welsh Corgi | Male | unneutered | 3 months and 20 days old | 14 lbs

Hello, I have two 15 week old corgis and had an emergency last night. They managed to get into my tobacco Snus cans. I could not find 4 of the pouches (12mg of nicotine each) so I had them at the vet within 30 mins. They induced vomiting and put them on charcoal. They did not find anything in the vomit and they were completely normal. They are normal today and I found all but one pouch and I know that the pouch that is missing was a 1 hour long used one from me. Are they in the clear?

If your pups are doing great today, yes, you should be in the clear. Symptoms of nicotine usually show up quite quickly (within the first couple hours), and if the pet is doing well 12 hours later typically we've got a really good prognosis. Here's some helpful info on nicotine toxicity in dogs if you're interested in some more reading: https://www.mspca.org/angell_services/nicotine-toxicity/ Hope this helps!
