My cat's healed surgery scar is dark. Should I take her to the vet?

Updated On September 23rd, 2025

Pet's info: Cat | Mixed Breed | Female | spayed | 9 lbs

My cat had surgery to remove a growth on her mammary gland. The incision has healed, but the scar looks darker in color. She's a mixed Siamese. Not exhibiting any difference in eating and drinking, but the color worries me. It's not black, just dark. Should I have it checked out?

Hi there, a photo would help - you're welcome to post your question again with a photo attached for better feedback. Sometimes we can get darkening (hyperpigmentation) of the skin with chronic inflammation, so it's possible that's why the scar looks darker. I'm not overly alarmed by your description, but I/d always recommend having a vet check it out if it seems different or concerning to you.
